Catching Up

So yesterday was not a successful day at the wheel for me. I did manage to pull up some pretty tall cylinders, but they both managed to collapse. So then I tried throwing off the hump, and that didn't work either. All in all, pretty frustrating, but that's life, right? Right.

I did take some pics of the things have I have thrown in the last couple of weeks. One of which has garnished praise from everyone in the studio: The turtle! The shell comes off, of course.
How cute is he? He's a gift for my roomie--she's obsessed with turtles. I'm very happy with the way he turned out. I'm going to attempt to make some smaller ones. I have some drawings of other animals that I could make too, so we'll just see where that goes!

This bowl also garnished some praise, even though I'm not terribly impressed with it: Yes, it's a heart. I contemplated adding a stem to the top and making it a leaf, but I'll leave it as a heart and try a leaf again later. Here's the top view:

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I returned to using LBM and turned a short cylinder into a largish gravy boat. Here is said piece: Silly me put the handle on before trimming (I am smrt), so this will be the finished shape.

Continuing on in my quest for height, I threw this cup, which I pinched a handle into:

A glaze fire was finished last night (Cynthia turned the kiln off while we were in class), so that means that I should be able to pick up some finished products (including the awesome bowl) on Thursday or Friday morning. I'm leaving for Denver sometime on Friday, and will be there until Monday, so I may just wait until Tuesday to pick everything up. We'll see how long my curiosity holds out!
