New Projects!

So, I'm lame and didn't take any pictures in class last night, nor did I blog last week (because I only trimmed all of the stuff that needed to be trimmed, which was enough to take me the entire two hours). Last night I started in on Christmas presents for the family, which are going to be chip and dip bowls. I threw two last night and they turned out semi decently, considering they were my first go round. It's a little awkward to throw a bowl within a bowl, but it is also a lot of fun, and I have a feeling that I will be making several.

I started with 4.5 lbs (I'm still using LBM, which was especially sloppy last night. I suspect it was because of the heat--both from the day and from the giant flames coming out of the top of the kiln in the other room), and the second was 5 lbs. They turned out to be about the same size, and they both ended up with a bit of a wobble, but for a first go I think they turned out awesome. I think I'll stick with the 4.5 to 5 lb range, but I have ideas about throwing a 6 lb one. We'll see.

And speaking of the kiln, I should be able to collect finished pieces by Friday of this week, and I'm getting internet installed at my house on Friday, so there will finally be pictures of finished pieces (I'm way behind on those, I know). So basically, exciting stuff going on in my pottery world. Stay tuned =D
