Some Pottery Gifts
So, I'm a gift giver. It's how I express my love for the people in my life. Plus, I can't reasonably hoard all of my pottery. One only needs so many mugs, right? Right. And what is better than an actually-handmade gift that has a high probability of lasting forever? Basically nothing.
First, the one I gave most recently:
The cake plate from the blog's banner. It was a birthday gift for my sister in law, who makes adorable cakes, and whose birthday is on Dec 29. I actually just delivered it to her this last weekend when I was home for our other sister in law's baby shower. NBD. That's how it goes with pottery!
While I'm very happy about the color, this glaze combination (Reitz Green & Vivika's Strawberry) crawled and the piece had to be chipped off the shelf. Also, too thick for the details I carved into it. My mother has requested one, so I'll have another crack at it (bad pun, a little pottery humor for you).
Next, the whiskey set:
Made for a friend who is a fan of whiskey. Still looking for a cork. I should have thrown a stopper. Next time! Also, please excuse the lens flare.
The cups are glazed in fake wood ash and perfect black. The jug is tenmoku and the fake wood ash. I was going for a slightly battered look, and threw the cups off the hump so they're all a little less than round. I'm proud of the jug, though I think there is room for improvement, obviously. It's a little bottom heavy.
And, a goblet for my bff:
The glaze, Woo Blue, is usually a lot more blue. The gray blue is still pleasing, though, and the bff was very happy about it.
Speaking of blues. I made a handwarmer mug for my SIL:
I pulled her name in the annual family Christmas gift draw (there are a lot of us these days, so we divide and conquer) in 2015. My bro assisted with the delivery by snatching the package from the porch before she could see it, so it was a surprise on Christmas morning.
There are more, like the awesome bowl I made for my momma.
And the bitchin octopus mug for my older sister:
That was the start of the Sea Life series, which will be its own post!
Thanks for reading, folks! More to come as I gather all the pictures I've been hoarding in various places.
